BETWEEN TWO POINTS

The Tornado de Dolores was an EF3-EF4 tornado on the enhanced Fujita scale, with winds of approximately 250 km / h to 330 km / h, occurring from 4:11 p.m. to 4:23 p.m on April 15, 2016. In twelve minutes lives changed forever and a whole community was left shaken. However, after this event, after the pains, the community became stronger and more united. After the tornado the rain didn't stop, the river rose and Dolores was like an island, surrounded by water. Yet the people did not give up and solidarity grew. Today, the city is still recovering.

 For 60 years, every October the Dolores community celebrates the national party of spring, recognized by the government. For this occasion groups of high school students create parade floats. Also residents prepare an art piece for the front of their homes. Last year because of Covid 19, the national party didn't take place, but the community in Dolores still created their home art to remember this party which represents the spring - the renaissance. In 2021 the dates coincide with the Terrain Biennale. 

This Project comprises a collective sculpture in the center of Dolores in the ruins of one of the buildings destroyed by the tornado. It draws on the experience of Dolores and ideas of shock, loss, acceptance, strength, solidarity and empowerment. Not only were these emotions experienced by Dolores during and after the tornado, they are experiences shared by every one of us, wherever we are in the world, trying to navigate the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic. The sculpture will explore the question: what has been lost and what has been found?
